For years, IT departments have struggled to deliver projects on time and within budget. But with today's emphasis on getting “more bang for the buck,” organizations have to scrutinize projects more closely than ever. This challenge has led many organizations to develop project management offices (PMOs) as a way to boost IT consistency and efficiency, cut costs, and improve on project delivery in terms of time and budget.
While PMO offices have traditionally been aligned with IT departments, many organizations are now seeing the need for an across-the-board project management methodology. In these situations, Constellation will establish an Enterprise Program Management Office (EPMO) or Transformation Management Office (TMO) within that organization. A PMO serves as a resource to the organization that helps make sure that all departments or divisions are managed the same way and are working toward the same objectives.
